Flood insurance is a much debated topic for Long Island Homeowners. Many homeowners are not sure if they should have a flood insurance policy. Your homeowner policy, whether your home is in Nassau or Suffolk County, whether it is in Stony Brook, Port Jefferson or Wantagh, Long Island, does not cover flood. You don't need to live by a large body of water to purchase a flood insurance policy. With the onset of spring, if Mother Nature provides us with a very rainy season and you live in an area where rain water floods your street and it comes into your home, then you will need to purchase a flood insurance policy for this to be covered. This will not be covered by your homeowner policy. There is a 30 day waiting period before most flood policies take effect. So contact your local independent agent, Newbrook Insurance, and let us help you obtain the coverage that best suits your needs.
